Automotive Senior Production Manager (Durban)
An automotive parts manufacturing company based in Durban, KZN is looking for a Production Manager to lead and manage the production team to create a management culture that drives performance to ensure that good quality parts are produced on time in full and to budget to meet the expectations of customers and stakeholders in a safe working environment
KEY PERFORMANCE AREA
- Process owner for the Production Department and is responsible for implementing, maintaining and updating all policies and procedures in the department
- Develops and maintains the necessary departmental procedures and forms to ensure efficient handling of routine activities according to Shareholders, business and customer requirements.
- Facilitate the development of measures and other controls to monitor the key elements of safety, production, quality, stock control, machine usage and efficiency.
- Ensures that the section is run efficiently in terms of budgetary and cost control.

Manage, lead and mentor departmental managers in their respective roles and responsibilities.

Ensures critical skills are retained and skills development is a continuous programme.

Ensures risk assessments and conducted, plans and executes activities to reduce high-risk processes.
- Ensures production managers plan and implement ways to achieve utilization and efficiency.
- Ensures production managers use the production recording systems as per instructions.
- Ensures budgets are used according to plans.
- Ensures departmental managers’ report internal downtime, investigate root cause and implement countermeasures.
- Ensures that the production manager prepares all resources to achieve production efficiencies and utilization.
- Ensures that the production planning manager implement policies to set up the department.
- Ensure that the manager organise the customer forecast into plans for production.
- Ensures that production data is collected and reported accurately on a daily, weekly and monthly.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Preferably an Engineering degree/diploma or Diploma in Production Management (NQF Level 6/7)
- Minimum 10 years of senior manufacturing role in an Automotive Industry or similar, preferably OEM or first tier.
- Have successfully implemented measurements and other controls to monitor key deliverables in an automotive manufacturing environment.
- Have developed at least one successful management team who have the competency to run an efficient and profitable management process.
- Computer Literacy
- MS Office competency to at least intermediate level.
- Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing techniques.
- Technical skills in materials and inventory management, production scheduling, and preventive maintenance.
- Leadership: A demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.
- Planning: Ability to perform short and long-range planning.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent project and program management skills.
- Quality orientation.
- Computer proficient.
