A well known  Industrial engineering manufacturer based in Durban specialising in design, tooling and manufacturing for over 3 decades. They are looking for a suitable candidate to fill the role of Logistics Engineer. The purpose of this role is responsible for designing, analyzing, and improving logistics systems to ensure the efficient and cost-effective movement of goods throughout the supply chain. This role involves using data analysis, simulation modelling, and optimization techniques to enhance logistics processes such as transportation, distribution, warehousing, and inventory management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • PC&L Standards & Deployment:
  • Develop, train, and ensure that PC&L Standards are correctly utilized throughout the plant and related departments.
  • Deploy visual management systems to improve reactivity in case of non-standard situations.
  • Identify and implement best practices.
  • Lead PC&L Improvement activities/projects.
  • Ensure a correct resource allocation to PC&L activities, to create a sustainable and disciplined adherence.
  • Lead Kaizen activities to obtain more efficient processes and cost savings, such as packaging density, transport, and human efficiency.
  • Create and manage CAPEX of the area for required investments.
  • Ensures critical skills are retained and skills development as a continuous program.
  • Develop a system that reduces WIP and FGs stock discrepancies.
  • Deploy Pull System.
  • Create an environment conducive for 5S adherence.
  • Carry out PC&L related audits.
  • Create planned Inventory, based on forecast.
  • Deploy Digital Support Systems related to PC&L (E-Receiving, E-Kanban, E-Shipping, E-Declaration, etc).
  • Deploy 5S and stock control best practices in Consumable and Spare Parts Stores.
  • Safety:
  • Perform routine Safety audits to PC&L Area and equipment, following up on PDCA.
  • Perform a Risk Assessment and develop a plan to mitigate identified risks.
  • Reporting:       
  • Routine reports of cycle counts, stock levels, their discrepancies and convergence plan.
  • Ensures ISO 14001 policies are procedures are improved to achieve stakeholder requirements.
  • Production:     
  • Calculate and deploy required inventory levels by equipment, based on supply routes and timing.
  • Production planning and Control:
  • Create Policies and Procedures for a Production Planning and Control Department.
  • Organize the customer forecast into plans for stock levels and resources.
  • Ensures that production data is collected and reported accurately on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Logistics:        
  • Ensure that inventory is managed according to requirements.
  • Ensures that the consumables stores are set up and controlled as per policies and procedures.
  • Conduct time studies
  • Create MIFC’s/Value stream mapping
  • Create work instructions
  • Create required layouts
  • Lead and implement Kanban systems
  • Supply Chain:
  • Ensures that the supply chain management is implemented.
  • Reduce Lead Times and Inventory throughout the supply chain.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A tertiary qualification in Production Management
  • At least 5 years in a similar role in an automotive environment, either an OE or tier one supplier.
  • A good understanding of the entire supply chain in this environment is also required.
  • Have successfully implemented measurements and other controls to monitor key deliverables in an automotive manufacturing environment.
  • To have deployed E-Logistics related tools
