Our client is an automotive producer of vehicles which supplies to various countries worldwide.They are looking to fill the Occupational Health and Safety Advisor position in the Strategic Plant Development Department -Production based in Kariega
Job Role
- To implement, continually improve and enforce the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Management System, ISO 45001, Organizational Directive (OD) 44 and other related compliance obligations in areas/departments of responsibility as assigned, as alternated periodically.
- To conduct internal desktop and/or face to face auditing of ISO 45001 Management System/s at Group, where relevant and similar auditing of OD 44 as applicable, including at the Subsidiaries.
- Ensure the company compliance with legislative compliance within the SA Legal Framework as well as with other global legal requirements.
- Identify and/or address Occupational Hygiene concerns and other OHS hazards in the workplace. Support Environmental System Compliance where interfaces exist
Key duties includes:
- Assist with and support Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental Management Programmes.
- Provide ongoing support to management before, during and after new projects are initiated.
- Contribute towards the improvement of Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental status within the organization.
- Keeping abreast with technical and technological developments in the field of Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental and provide sound Occupational Health, Safety and related Environmental assistance and advice accordingly.
- Conduct regular inspections /audits and analyze results, report on corrective action planned and taken.
- Provide input at the Occupational Health and Safety Committee Meetings and similar forums.
- Keeping the Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental filing system, appointments and other records up to date for litigation purposes.
- Updating policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legislation and other binding obligations.
- Investigate incidents, accidents and non-conformances to establish root cause with the aim to provide sound engineering, technical and administrative advice in preventing recurrence.
- Assist with the gathering, compilation, analysis and distribution of safety statistics.
- Liaison with internal and external stakeholders, subsidiaries and interested parties in terms of ISO 45001, Organizational Directive 44, related prescribed legislation, codes of practice, standards, guidelines and other compliance obligations
- Assist with the verification, analysis, interpretation and communication of safety statistics for final sign off and submission to ZUES system in line with the identified data points and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) Requirements.
- Develop and Conduct Occupational Health, Safety training and awareness activities.
- Promote Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental principles and awareness amongst contractors, suppliers, visitors, members of the public
Qualification & Experience requirements
- National Diploma in Safety Management / Environmental Health
- A minimum of 3 years relevant experience in Occupational Health, Safety and/or Environmental Management within a manufacturing/production environment
- SAMTRAC is an added advantage
- Code 08 Drivers Licensee
- Good knowledge of Plant operations
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Office)
- Be able to communicate effectively at all levels
- Proven analytical skills with an innovative approach to problem-solving
- Ability to understand and interpret legislation
